Yahoo Rolls Out More Mobile Search Improvements Better results for five types of queries

Comment Tuesday, October 12, 2010 ViewComments By Doug Caverly 0 Buzz This

Yahoo fans who own smartphones should now be treated to a search experience that's better than ever.  Yahoo's upgraded its mobile search results in more than a few ways, and promised that additional changes are in the works, too.

An important note regarding availability: the improvements have been rolled out at m.yahoo.com for most iPhone owners and people using Android 2.0 and above, meaning they're not targeted at some tiny demographic or in any way difficult to take advantage of.

As for some specifics, Anil Panguluri, who holds the title "Product Director, Yahoo Mobile Search & Discovery," described the upgrades on the Yahoo Mobile Blog by writing, "We've honed search results for local business listings, stock information, entertainment topics, videos, and images.  You'll see that results for these topics are neatly packaged so you can find exactly what you need when you're out and about."

An example involving Yahoo Finance is visible below.

Later, Panguluri added in regards to what's on the way, "We will be enhancing other types of searches and plan to roll out the new Yahoo! mobile experience on more devices and international markets in the coming months.  We're also working on improving Yahoo! mobile apps and building new apps, so stay tuned."

This counts as yet another good sign that the Microsoft-Yahoo deal hasn't derailed Yahoo's own search efforts.
